Street shoe vendor Louis Dieu, right, at his vending spot in the Delmas area of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, October 26, 2011. Dieu says he works his location seven days each week and typically sells between three and six pair of shoes per day. Having sold shoes for three years, his average profit is about $30 for selling six pair of shoes. He has two children and pays $800 (U.S. dollars) a year in tuition for his oldest to attend kindergarten. Dieu says city government workers have been trying to shut down he and others. He says they recently cut a cot he was using to display his shoes. Photo by James Edward Bates.
